Yesterday it finally cooled down to 80º (26ºC) with acceptable humidity and bright sunshine, so I seized the opportunity to take a hour's stroll through Old Town. I took perhaps too many street views, but here are some of the best--with occasional captions.

A very old house; note the thingies on the roof shaped like eagles.
This is very typical Washington DC architecture, quite uncommon in Old Town.
Reputedly the narrowest house in Alexandria (in blue) said to have been built by a local merchant for his mistress--cheapskate!
However, in Old Town it's best not to judge the size of a house by its frontage...

Deletefrom what I have read, narrow houses were built so the owner would not pay as much tax as the owner of a larger home. you could plop any of those pix in philly or boston, as the architecture is similar. colonial cities are cool!
