The Azores

Part of the attraction to this particular cruise was a port of call at the Azores. The Azores are part of Portugal and are about as far from mainland Portugal as Bermuda is from the Carolinas. On the map, it looks very much like it's just stuck out there in the middle of the ocean with nothing else around it, minding it's own business. OK, I gotta see what's goin' on there. It's quite charming: narrow windy streets, ornate old churches, and it adds a new country to our roster.

Scenes from Marital Bliss

J: Should I throw out that jar of peanutbutter/chocolate spread? I know you don't like it...

D: Oh, I don't not like it; I just don't eat it.

J: Oh...

Bermuda

We had a quick port of call in Bermuda; our second visit there. I love the place. Caribbean islands don't do much for me, but Bermuda, sitting out there in the Atlantic off the Carolina coast, is something special. First time we hit the town and ignored the fort; this time we ignored the town and did the fort and governor's palace therein.
In the basement were a military museum and these great "portholes" cut through the thick foundation walls to spy on attackers.
historic rooms upstairs in the palace
the grounds were quite lovely
