That Was Scary
I had a scary episode of collapsing last weekend. Saturday I walked into the kitchen for coffee in the morning and felt myself losing my balance. I grabbed the counter and as soon as I did I began shaking, then my legs just gave out from under me and hit the floor and couldn't get up. There was mental confusion as well. (Yikes!) This happened 1 or 2 other times on Saturday; I was fine on Sunday, but on Monday morning it happened again as soon as I got out of bed. David succeeded in persuading me to seek medical help, and we went from my doctor's office to the urgent care to the emergency room. After baffling medical science for a few hours and getting samples of various fluids taken, an EKG, a CT, and an MRI (did I mention I have really good insurance?) they determined I was suffering from low blood pressure. Huh??? I've been battling high blood pressure for decades. So they--wait for it--cut 1 of my 2 high blood pressure meds in half, and now I feel just fine. They kept me overnight for observation--I had to sign a form stating that I was told I was under observation (Huh? again)--and released me next day. A great relief to know I didn't have a stroke; in fact, they couldn't find anything else physically wrong with me. That was most comforting.
