Dig-Out Day, or an Attempt Thereof
So HamsterFans, it's dig-out day here in the nation's capital. Our conservatory is high enough so as to afford a nice perch to watch the attempts. Apparently there is an ice layer in with the snow, which affords a greater challenge--especially for those who have no idea what they're doing in the first place. Twice we've seen people banging against windshields or car bodies with the blunt end of a snow scraper--likely not a recommended procedure in their owner's manuals. A few cars made it half way out of their parking spaces, only to be abandoned in the attempt. Some poor souls are out there for a second day, with about as much luck.

Of course, since we don't get much snow here and people don't know what to do, there is a fair amount of panic and local news announcing the end of civilization. Still, it's 18º (-8ºC) out there, feels like 5º (-15ºC) with a wind at 12-24mph (20-38kph). What ya might call a tad brisk.

Saturday evening, a severe winter storm moves in and the highs will be like 24 (-5 C) with freezing rain, ice, and snow accumulations from 5-10" (13-25 cm). And that is why many hold that this part of the country has the most refreshing climate in the world...
